Native American Carving - The Gift of Tobacco (SOLD 6/15/2020)

$3,950.00Price
This Statue is hand and chainsaw carved from a well-preserved chunk of Kentucky Yellow Tulip Poplar. Inspired by the Kentucky tobacco fields that surrounded my home and the character of the wood, I decided to carve the Native American.

The Eastern tribes of North America first introduced tobacco to the Europeans and before long carved wood statues of native americans holding tobacco and/or cigars became a visual marketing icon for shops selling tobacco.

In the carving, the tobacco represents the Eastern tribes, the turquoise pendant and thunderbird sash represent the Southwest regions, buckskins and a headdress the Plains Indians and the Beartooth necklace the Northern regions.

Dimensions: 20" x 17" x 64" Actual Weight 125 lbs.
